Job Summary:

Operates radiologic equipment to make clinical diagnostic x-ray films as directed by physicians and performs routine diagnostic procedures.

Essential Duties:

  • Schedules patients for radiology procedures.

  • Evaluates quality of radiographs, procedures, and services.

  • Critiques quality of films.

  • Monitors departmental performance for compliance with accreditation, legal, and other regulatory requirements.

  • Recommends changes in work methods.

  • Ensures that all radiographic and film processing equipment is properly maintained. Follows prescribed safety standards in operating equipment.

  • Obtains radiographs of diagnostic quality according to office procedures and protocols.

  • Assesses the patient’s condition, comfort, and safety during examinations.

  • Positions the patient and the equipment to obtain best radiograph.

  • Performs exams accurately and efficiently.

  • Identify patient, order, procedure, and perform correction exam.

  • Assesses the patient requisitions reviewing history, type of procedure, and primary location.

  • Assesses patient for artifacts and takes appropriate action to prevent interference with radiograph.

  • Checks patient’s chart for history of reaction to contrast media before administering contrast media to ensure no contraindication to procedure exists.

  • Identifies each patient and reviews each request or chart for consistency in radiological requisition.

  • Utilizes “technique guides” to reduce exposure to repeat films according to office standards.

  • Identifies anatomical orientation on required radiographs and assures proper film identification on all radiographs.

  • Routinely protects self and other personnel during radiological examinations, and shields patient according to office procedures and state regulations.

  • Participates in approved competency programs that includes imaging equipment, procedures and the care of patients of all ages.

  • Attends educational seminars to maintain professional competency.

  • Maintains patient and associate privacy and confidentiality.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.



  • Certification with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT)


  • High school diploma or equivalent required.

  • Associate degree in Radiologic Technology from an accredited school. Registered or registry eligible.


  • 1-2 years as a Radiologic Technologist

  • Medical office experience preferred
