TRANSPORTER (Radiology) Part Time - Monday-Friday, First Shift (2510002021)


Job Summary :

Supports the department by assisting in the planning, organizing, coordinating, monitoring, and evaluation of work planning and completion. Working under general supervision, performs clerical functions, answers phones, greets and schedules patients, transports, and provides general help for patients much as changing clothes, walking, or providing covering for; develops films in the automatic processor, and files films and reports, retrieves archived records and helps to maintain the preservation of patient records. Aids the technologists in working with or moving patients, and holding the patients in position as needed, sorting films from printer, loading film printer setting patients records and films up for the Radiologist reading. Works with neonates, pediatrics, adolescents, adults, and geriatric patients. Must possess knowledge and skills to meet the specific needs of each group. Uses and discloses patient protected health information: 1) Only as it applies to job functions, 2) In amounts minimally necessary for intended purpose, and 3) In a confidential manner.

Essential Duties :

  • Performs a variety of routine clerical duties such as filing, greeting patients and families, completing examination requests, prepare films to mail, mailing x-rays, and answering the telephone. Retrieves and files films for daily work, completes records by placing the day’s report in the correct patient file and files to the main file room or the archive file room. Cleans the file areas and moves files as needed to different file rooms. Purges x-rays and packets.

  • Transports patients, using wheelchair or stretcher, to and from the waiting areas and examination rooms, emergency room, hospital rooms, and between other departments while cooperating with all imaging modalities.

  • Periodically checks on waiting patients to watch for signs of distress, such as change in breathing, weakness, change in color and the like, and assists those who are in need of help by informing the appropriate personnel (e.g., the control technologist, physician, or radiology nurse).

  • Assists the technologist or physician in lifting, moving, positioning and holding the patient as needed.

  • Helps patients that are in need of help changing clothes, moving from one area to another, and locating dressing rooms, restrooms and the like. Provides gown, blankets, and drapes to patient to maintain patient privacy and comfort.

  • Develops x-ray films using the automatic processors, fills and empties x-ray cassettes as requested by the technologists. Copies x-ray films in accordance with pre-set protocol.


Education :

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.

Experience :

  • Approximately three to six months on-the-job experience necessary in order to gain familiarity with departmental procedures, knowledge of department locale and all supplies.

License/Certification :

  • American Heart Association (AHA) BLS certification required.
