Patient Transporter- Courtesy Shuttle Services - Mercy Medical Center FT (Variable shifts/EOW)



Transports or escorts patients and families throughout the

medical center to support timely delivery for testing, transfer between units,

or discharge.


  • Assumesresponsibility for safe patient transport from point of pick up of patientto delivery to the receiving department or discharge.

  • Preparesfor and carries out transport of patients, patient belongings, equipment,supplies and medical records to and from departments.

  • Transferspatients to/from cart/bed/wheelchair using correct and safe equipment and techniques.Assists with patient lifts/moves as requested by Mercy staff.

  • Documentswork activities according to policy and procedure.

  • Respondsappropriately to patient requests and according to policy and procedure ifthese exist.

  • Observesand reports pertinent patient and family information to clinical/testingsite personnel to promote patient safety and according to policy includingIV pump alarms.

  • Providesappropriate information and directions to visitors, patients and staff asneeded.

  • Cleansand stores equipment properly.

  • Maintainsthe physical environment in a clean, well stocked and orderly manner.

  • Complieswith OHSA/The Joint Commission, infection control, and other pertinent regulatoryrequirements and guidelines.

  • Reportsphysical environment and safety issues to appropriate department or SafetyOfficer.

  • Utilizessoftware, pagers, phone systems and other resources appropriately andaccording to policy and procedure to respond to requests for service in atimely manner.

  • Displayscompetency in location of department/floor/units through out the facility.

  • Demonstratesefficient use of supplies, time, and equipment.


  • Performsbasic maintenance of wheelchairs/carts.

  • Performsother tasks as assigned.

  • Escortspatients, families or others as needed to requested locations asneeded.



  • Highschool diploma or GED required.

  • Medicalterminology preferred.

  • Healthcareexperience preferred.

  • BasicLife Support certified within six (6) weeks of hire. Acceptable credentialing bodies andcertifications include American Red Cross CPR/AED for the ProfessionalRescuer and American Heart Association Basic Life Support for HealthcareProviders.

  • Proofof completion of Mandatory Reporter abuse training specific to populationserved within three (3) months of hire.

  • Successfulcompletion of transporter training and competencies.

  • Basiccomputer skills preferred.
