Job Summary :

Under the supervision of a registered nurse, observes telemetry monitors, analyzes data, alerts department staff of changes or potentially life threatening conditions. Dispatches air and ground ambulances to and from healthcare facilities as per request from physician. Is responsible for receiving and relaying Emergency Services’ radio messages. Is responsible for maintaining a line of communication by phone to and from physicians both within and out of the Health Systems. Enters ED patient orders and charges into the system as directed. Performs other clerical duties as assigned. Support the nursing vision.

Essential Duties:

  • Performs emergency dispatching as requested.

  • Observes Emergency Services EKG monitors, analyzes the data and reports concerns to department staff immediately.

  • Compiles, organizes, and processes information for the department from radio, phones and verbal communication.

  • May monitor and record incoming and outgoing phone calls on the Emergency Services toll-free hotline for quality assurance purposes.

  • Types, files, audits, copies, maintains and monitors department records.

  • Provides department service to patients, family members, physicians, nursing and EMS personnel both in and out of the Health Systems.

  • Performs value-added activities that result in positive financial performance and customer satisfaction.

  • Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.

  • Maintains a record of patient activity in the ED.

Hours: Nights - 6p-6a




  • Must have a high school/graduate equivalence diploma.

  • EMT training, unit secretary or similar communication background preferred.


  • None required.

  • EMT and/or Certified Nurses Assistant (CNA) preferred.


  • Will be required within one year of hire to take a Basic Arrhythmia class and pass competency exam.

  • Work experience as a unit secretary, medical assistant, or EMT preferred.


  • Must have ability to perform general clerical and receptionist duties and carry out routine tasks accurately, following written and verbal instructions.

  • Ability to concentrate and pay close attention to detail.

  • Must be able to prioritize multiple job duties and take appropriate action when critical situations arise.

  • Keyboarding skills required.

  • Ability to see and hear in order to perform duties.

  • Must possess interpersonal skills to effectively work with employees, visitors and guests.

  • Ability to prioritize and organize work.

  • Medical terminology preferred.
