Summary of Purpose
Collects blood and urine specimens for analysis by the Laboratory. Performs various clerical and support functions associated with the laboratory service.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
Collects blood and urine specimens for analysis using methods consistent with the laboratory's policies, procedures and safe work practices and good laboratory technique.
Ensures proper labeling, transport and computer accessioning of specimens, based on established policies, procedures and guidelines.
Performs analytical testing using approved bedside testing equipment and procedures.
Performs value-added activities that result in positive financial performance and customer satisfaction.
Receives, prepares, processes and transports specimens for analysis using established policies, procedures and methods consistent with safe work practices and good laboratory technique.
Enters specimen and patient information into computer, including insurance information, diagnosis information from requisition, etc. Follows up with nursing floor or doctor’s office if information is unclear.
Receives all incoming calls from patients, staff, physician offices, etc. to the lab. Answers questions or refers to the appropriate person.
Reviews patient/client lab billing to ensure proper amounts. Reviews and follows up with reference laboratories to ensure proper bill. Follows up with clinic when billing denials from insurance companies occur when testing procedure and diagnosis codes are not acceptable or missing.
Compiles, organizes, processes and distributes materials and information for the Laboratory Department. (Includes: computer data entry, retrieval, admitting, and billing functions).
Communicates laboratory information effectively to all hospital employees, guests, visitors, clinics, and other hospitals in an appropriate manner.
- Must be a high school graduate.
- Valid driver’s license.
Phlebotomy certification through the American Society of Clinical Pathologists or equivalent agency.
CPR certification within 3 months of employment.
- None required.
Must have excellent interpersonal skills and be able to interact effectively with patients of all ages.
Must be able to prioritize and organize assignments effectively.
Must possess the skills to perform basic analytical testing at the patient bedside.
Ability to concentrate and pay close attention to detail.
Must have ability to follow written and verbal instructions accurately.

Daily Schedule 2:30pm-11:00pm flexible
Scheduled Hours per 2-week Pay Period 80
Weekends Required Every Other
