Description

The SDS Charge Nurse provides and coordinates infusion activities to ensure safe, quality and compassionate care including but not limited to: chemotherapeutic infusions; intravenous hydration; blood administration; antibiotic administration; therapeutic medication infusions; and injections. Also coordinates and cares for preoperative and post-operative patients. The SDS Charge Nurse is also responsible for collaborating with the Clinical Services Director regarding the day to day operations and scheduling of the Same Day Services unit. The nurse must be systematic in nature and use the nursing process, decision-making, analytical and scientific thinking and inquiry. The nurse must have a knowledge base regarding sedation/analgesic and anesthetic agents and techniques, the physiological and psychological responses to them, and the vulnerability of the patient subjected to them coupled with all the principles of age-specific medical-surgical and critical care nursing. The nurse must understand the physical, psychological, socio-cultural and spiritual needs of a pre-operative patient. RNs administering chemotherapy and IV therapy receive an education with current and evidence-based content. This includes principles and types and classifications of chemotherapy and IV therapy; principles of safe preparation, storage, labeling, and disposal of chemotherapeutic and IV therapy agents and proper use of personal protective equipment administration procedures and post-treatment care. Performs other job duties as assigned by Director.

Qualifications

  1. Education and Training (required and preferred): Graduate from an accredited school of nursing with current education on age specific assessment and interventions from neonate through geriatric.

  2. Experience (required and preferred): Minimum of two year of experience in oncology required.

  3. Licensure, Certification and Registrations (required and preferred including agency): Current license as a registered nurse in the State of Minnesota; Oncology Nurse Certificated (OCN) required; Chemotherapy and Biotherapy Certifications required. Basic Life Support (BLS) required, Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and, Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) within one (1) year of hire.
