Transcriptionist - Heart Clinic AR-Kanis - Part Time Days


JOB SUMMARY: The Medical Transcriptionist transcribes medical dictation into medical record chart in proper format; records necessary identification information on all appropriate forms; routes transcribed charts to physician for physician sign off; prepares medical record routing forms for re-dictation; maintains documentation of daily work production and turns in weekly time sheet. Meets job standard requirements on a daily basis; responsible for keeping transcription current; performs other duties as assigned.

Essential Functions:

  1. CommunicationAnswers telephone promptly and courteously Communicates interdepartmentally with office staffResponds to staff requests checking status of transcription crateResponds to stat transcription requests appropriately.Notifies lead medical transcriptionist if unable to complete physician transcription within 48 hour timeframe requirement.Communicates with team leader if transcription requires outsourcing.If transcription is incomplete, routes medical record chart to superbill crate for reprocessing of dictation.Responsible for re-transcribing into appropriate medical record chart. If dictation needs to be transferred from one medical record chart to another, notifies team leader to lift flag.Seeks support from other personnel if tape is inaudible or transcriptionist needs additional resource.

  2. Information Management Documents the appropriate physician’s name, dictation and transcription date, in proper format provided. Documents on all resident dictation an appropriate staff physician’s name that was on-call with resident at the bottom of the progress note. Completes all transcription assigned within 48 hours from date of service.

  3. ClericalUses correct sheet in Access Transcription System format to transcribe dictation into patient’s medical record chart. Notify team leader if dictation is transcribed in wrong form.Updates all information sheets in patients’ medical record chart including progress sheet, diagnosis sheet, and medication sheet, past history sheet, as dictated by physician.Transcribes specially dictation on specialty transcription paper.Transcribes minimum requirement of 65.0 minute of actual dictation per 8 hour work day.Completes dictated crate and returns crates to physician module for sign off.Performs other duties as assigned.Routes loose dictation in red out to nurse for her pendafile. Coordinates daily work activities to ensure that all medical records charts are transcribed within 48 hours.

  4. StewardshipHandles confidential patient data according to confidentiality requirements.Effective in personal time management.

  5. Guest RelationsWorks well with co-workers, supervisors and directors to define and work toward common clinic goals. Maintains good inter/intra departmental relationships.



Education: High School Diploma, GED, Metropolitan Test or equivalent.

Experience: Previous transcription background

Physical Requirements: Sit at computer for prolonged periods of day (8 hours); mental alertness and clear thinking necessary.

Skills: Thorough knowledge of medical terminology; familiar with dictation and transcription equipment. Must meet quantitative and qualitative production standards outlined in job description. Accurately type at least 70 wpm.
