JOB SUMMARY: Independently perform journeyman level duties in designing, constructing, installing, or maintaining building systems or equipment, ensuring that the finished product meets all standards and requirements for safety, is functional, efficient and comfortable for the occupants or users. Monitors problems in equipment or systems and recommends solutions to alleviate them.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Self Development

Studies manual for new equipment and software packages as soon as available.

Learns to operate new equipment, test equipment, tools and/or software as soon as possible after it is received.

Develops and practices new or improved production, troubleshooting or design techniques.

Takes courses of study to increase knowledge of the filed, or other related fields.

Reviews magazines, journals, trade publications, books and other publications to stay abreast of the latest technology in the filed, or in other related fields.

  1. Documentation

Ensures complete, accurate and timely information is recorded on work requests.

Maintains purchase request and other financial files in a legible, orderly and timely manner.

Maintains records to meet requirements of regulating agencies and others.

Submits maintenance incident and utility management reports whenever required.

Documents all changes to systems, prints or schematics immediately after they occur.

Keeps users informed or updated on the status of equipment or facilities undergoing repair renovation.

Follow up on problems after work is completed or transferred to another technician.

Notifies leaders of situations that are unusual or critical in nature.

Gives and receives feedback constructively regardless of circumstances.

Communicates and performs work satisfactorily under stressful conditions.

Communicates clearly and effectively with a broad range of personalities.

  1. Technical Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Demonstrates the ability to take a job from start to finish.

Prepares estimates which are accurately reflected at the completion of work.

Demonstrates the ability to interpret blueprints.

Works with other crafts and coordinates with them to allow work to be completed on schedule.

Consistently produces a satisfactory quantity of work with no decrease in quality.

Performs follow up inspections before signing off as complete.

Complete job assignments in an accurate and timely manner.

Uses a broad base of mechanical and electrical knowledge when affecting repairs.

Maintains current licensure and/or certification.

Operates all tools in a productive and safe manner.

Accurately utilizes the Energy Management Computer systems.

Identifies piping, chillers, boiler, generators, and areas served.

Executes emergency policies and procedures in an accurate and timely manner.

Provides detailed estimates in a structured and logical order.

Troubleshoots and accurately diagnoses problems and quickly takes corrective action.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent.

Experience: At least five years work experience in power plant operating or successful completion of four year apprenticeship program in power plant operations.

Physical Requirements: Must be in good physical condition, able to lift up to 100 pounds, and walk, bend, climb, and crawl for extended periods of time.

Skills: Must possess a working knowledge of schematics and blue prints, codes and standards and electrical troubleshooting. Must possess good communication skills. Must possess a working knowledge of test equipment utilized in power plant operating.
