PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  1. Prepares room, equipment, and supplies necessary for each procedure.

  2. Performs diagnostic ultrasound services:

a. Operates fixed and mobile ultrasound equipment.

b. Operates other equipment/accessory devices as necessary.

c. Positions patient properly for exam type..

d. Obtains pertinent history and clinical data for correlation with sonographic findings

e. Selects proper technical factors and imaging modes.

f. Modifies routine procedures and factors as required by patient condition.

g. Evaluates sonograms for technical quality.

h. Practices aseptic technique and infection control principles as necessary. Assists physician with diagnostic and invasive ultrasound procedures..

  1. Provides an explanation of procedures and assumes care for physical/psychological needs of the patient while in the Maternal Fetal Medicine office.

  2. Assumes responsibility for assigned area:

a. Maintains patient flow through optimum utilization of time and resources.

b. Performs necessary equipment calibration and adjustments.

c. Provides a clean and orderly environment.

d. Maintains stock supplies.

e. Reports equipment malfunctions.

f. Schedules exams as necessary.

  1. Recognizes patient conditions requiring immediate action and assists in providing immediate care for life support measures.

  2. Maintains patient and maternal fetal medicine records.

  3. Assumes responsibility for data collection and provides input for portions of quality improvement program associated with assigned area.

  4. Participates in clinical instruction, supervision and evaluation of students and residents during clinical rotations.

  5. Performs additional and/or special duties as assigned commensurate with ability/training such as: filing and clerical functions, transporting patients, performing procedures in surgical suites, providing assistance in other areas of department, and adapting work schedule to provide necessary coverage for vacation and sick time.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:

Experience

No experience required.

Education/Licensure

Graduate of AMA accredited program in diagnostic medical ultrasound or graduate of post secondary allied health professions program accredited by AMA, preferred; Practical experience in diagnostic medical ultrasound, preferred.

RDMSOB from the ARDMS along with NTQR nuchal translucency certification within 18 Months.

BLS or BLS instructor certification is required upon hire. Acceptable credentialing bodies and certifications include the following: American Red Cross: CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer, American Safety and Health Institute: CPR, PRO, must say “Professional Level-with AED”, and American Heart Association: Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

Must possess a strong knowledge of principles of ultrasound, fetal structure & function, strong knowledge of cross sectional anatomy, and selection of ultrasound technical factors. Proven ability to handle job related stress, must be able to handle multiple tasks at one time. Possess effective written and oral communication skills, manual dexterity, reading skills, team building skills and be people orientated.
