Job Summary/Essential Duties:

  • Cleans, prepares and packages surgical instruments, implants and instrument trays according to departmental policy/procedure.

  • Processes instruments for immediate reuse for surgical procedures during working hours.

  • Inspects surgical instruments and equipment for proper function and reports any deviations for repair or replacement.

  • Maintains knowledge of specific surgical tray content and reassembles trays.

  • Reports missing equipment or instruments promptly.

  • Follows OSHA Standards related to universal precautions and hazardous communications at all times.

  • Operates equipment found in the Clean-Up Room.

  • Maintains instruments and equipment in accordance with manufacturer's recommendation.

  • Assists with the transfer of supplies between SPD/Central Supply and surgery.

  • Assists with the stocking of supplies in appropriate areas within surgery, including surgery case carts as directed.

Hours:

  • On Call Saturday 10am – Sunday 10am, every other weekend

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:

Experience/Education

  • Preferred: A minimum of two years experience in instrument processing or sterilization

OR

  • completion of approved surgical tech program.

  • Preferred: High school diploma or its equivalent

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Knowledge of surgical instrumentation and their associated care.

  • Knowledge of surgical supplies and equipment.

  • Knowledge of medical and surgical asepsis and infection control principles.

  • Verbal and non-verbal communication skills.

  • Manual dexterity skills.

  • Good interpersonal relationship skills.

  • Ability to work under stressful and changing conditions in a calm, productive and flexible manner.

  • Ability to stand for long periods of time.

  • Ability to lift and carry items that weight up to 50#.
