JOB SUMMARY:

Provides basic and specialty cleaning services to all areas of the hospital, focusing primarily on the operations of heavy mechanical equipment (e.g., scrubbers, buffers, polishers, extractors, wet vacuuming equipment, etc.) used in the cleaning and maintenance of hard and soft (i.e., carpet) flooring surfaces, including stairwells, hallways and public spaces, and/or provides handling, sterilizing, transporting and disposing of bio-hazard waste in accordance with city, county, state and federal regulatory requirements.

Work may also include incidental performance of Environmental Svcs Tech I, job code 7008 , duties.

Work is performed independently and in accordance with FHS standards and procedures.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Operates heavy-duty industrial equipment to clean and maintain hard and soft flooring surfaces, including stairwells, hallways and public spaces.

  • Equipment may include mechanical cleaners such as scrubbers, buffers, polishers, extractors, wet vacuuming equipment, carpet cleaning equipment, etc.

Cleans and monitors assigned equipment to ensure effective operation; identifies need for repair or replacement and notifies immediate supervisor.

Wears prescribed protective gear (i.e., gloves, goggles) appropriate to assignment and observes and participates in all hospital-required Safety, Risk Management, and Infection Control practices, including hand washing/hand sanitizing protocols.

  • Reports unusual incidents with emphasis on safety and maintenance.

Handles, transports and disposes of bio-hazard trash and waste in accordance with established procedures and regulatory requirements.

  • Clears utility rooms of soiled materials and transports to load dock.

  • Transfers waste to trash compactor for pick-up and disposal by contracted waste vendor.

Performs related duties as required.

Qualifications

Education/Work Experience Requirements:

Six months of experience that demonstrates attainment of the requisite job knowledge skills/abilities.

Janitorial work experience in an industrial setting is preferred.
