Care Asst-Health Unit Coord-Woodlands PACU (Days) Full Time

primary and secondary care hospital serving North Harris and Montgomery

counties. Clinical services include cardiovascular services, diagnostic

imaging, women’s services (digital mammography and bone density studies),

neurosciences, pediatric care (Newborn and Level II nurseries) and surgery,

pathology and pulmonary services, and sleep disorders. Clinical affiliations

include The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center’s Radiation Treatment

Center, and Texas Children’s Hospital.

Position Summary:


patient care, clerical support and observation of monitored EKG patterns of

patients on telemetry. The Unit Tech

also coordinates services for the patient unit including nursing personnel.

Position Responsibilities:

  1. Provides directpatient care as delegated by RN staff. Monitors and records vital signs,Assists in providing personal hygiene and physical care needs. Performs bloodglucose testing. Reports changes in patient's status promptly to RN. Performsphlebotomy skills on assigned unit. Performs limited sterile procedures asdelegated by a RN

  2. Assists in theadmission, transfer and discharge process; Performs and documents generaltherapeutic measures

  3. Provides clericalsupport to the patient care unit through ensuring patient medical record isproperly assembled, Accurately transcribing orders and enters Consults into thecomputer if applicable

  4. Acts as areceptionist for the unit by directing, assisting, and communicating topatients, families, visitors, co-workers and other departmental personnel

  5. Continuousobservation of monitored EKG patterns and pulse oximetry as ordered. Sets up,calibrates and Maintains settings and alarms on telemetry module. Obtainsrhythm strip at beginning of shift, admission and changes labels strip withpatient identification, time, lead monitored, PR interval, ST interval, QRSinterval

  6. Trouble shootstelemetry equipment, Ensures monitors are functioning properly, ensuretelemetry supplies are available. Accounts for telemetry transmitters, Verifiesdaily telemetry charges. Identifies changes in rate, rhythm, or pattern,notifying RN of these changes. Responds appropriately to emergency situations,runs a continuous EKG strip and notifies appropriate staff

  7. Demonstratescommitment to the continuum of care by optimizing patient flow

  8. Demonstratescommitment to the cost-containing goals of the patient care unit and thehospital: ordering only needed supplies, removing and delivering suppliesreceived, entering patient charges timely, and ensuring discontinued equipmentis returned promptly

  9. Demonstratescommitment to maintain a neat, orderly, and safe environment: Maintains a neat,safe and orderly work area, keeps hallways clear of obstructions, reportssafety issues and broken equipment appropriately, and adheres to patient safetyprecautions.




School Diploma/GED Required

Minimum Experience:


(2) years of experience and/or training in both nursing and secretarial support

in a hospital or clinical setting.

Minimum Knowledge,Skills, and Abilities:



Demonstrate knowledge

in the area of EKG interpretation through the following: a) Pass the Basic

Dysrhythmia Rhythm Interpretation Exam b) Successfully complete the Basic

Dysrhythmia Interpretation Course (if applicable)
