Hospital Outpatient Departments

Position Summary:

Operates diagnostic equipment and performs a variety of technical

diagnostic imaging procedures related to CT. Provides patient orientation,

procedure explanation, and pre and post diagnostic care to completion of test.

Performs complete diagnostic imaging tests inclusive of positioning patient, calibration

of equipment, and documentation of findings, with the direction of the imaging

supervisor/manager. Assists patients with basic patient care needs.

Position Responsibilities:

  1. Performs CT exams onpatients according to the specific departmental procedure protocols under thedirection of the Medical Director.

  2. Prepares equipmentensuring that equipment is operational, safe and functioning according todiagnostic standards

  3. Problem-solves equipmentfailure and imaging quality and contacts service representative or CESregarding equipment problems

  4. Ensures that dailyequipment and room maintenance are performed during/ after each procedure, andthat special precautions and measures are performed to ensure infection controlstandards.

  5. Completes all qualitychecks and Ensures that equipment logs are maintained

  6. Completes all clinicalsupply inventories, ensuring that each diagnostic room is complete with thenecessary supplies required to perform the procedure

  7. Actively participateswith patient testing, performing routine, non-routine, urgent, and emergentpatient requests

  8. Reviews the physicianorders to verify the type of diagnostic test requested and that the indicationfor the procedure is consistent

  9. Communicates withRadiologist to obtain proper exam protocol/test design.

  10. Provides specificdiagnostic test information to the patient ensuring that the patient is awareof the diagnostic test involvement.

  11. Performs Point of Caretesting for lab tests according to hospital guidelines.

  12. Effectively starts IVsfollowing hospital guidelines.

  13. Completes the diagnosticexamination and all image post processing.

  14. Demonstrates competencyin PACS process and Performs daily QA process

  15. Completes imageprocessing, including supporting documentation of logs, demographic and diagnosticinformation required for departmental, hospital and patient recorddocumentation.

  16. Responsible formonitoring and recording radiation dose levels.

  17. Notifies Radiologistwith any diagnostic findings, which warrant communication.

Qualifications

Education:

Associate’s

Degree Required

Licensure/Certification:

Registered

by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists – ARRT (R) (CT); must

maintain current

Certified

by Texas Department of Health as Certified Medical Radiologic Technologist –

MRT; must maintain current

CPR/BLS

certification

Minimum Experience:

One

(1) year experience as a Radiographer

Minimum Knowledge,Skills, and Abilities:

Good alpha/numeric dexterity

and handwriting skills

Interpersonal skills for

communication with patients, visitors, physicians and other hospital personnel

Must have good

written and oral communication skills
