Sterile Processing Tech I - Instrument Room (Days) Full Time

The WoodlandsHospital

A

primary and secondary care hospital serving North Harris and Montgomery

counties. Clinical services include cardiovascular services, diagnostic

imaging, women’s services (digital mammography and bone density studies),

neurosciences, pediatric care (Newborn and Level II nurseries) and surgery,

pathology and pulmonary services, and sleep disorders. Clinical affiliations

include The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center’s Radiation Treatment

Center, and Texas Children’s Hospital.

PositionSummary:

Performs

and participates in decontamination, cleaning, assembling, packaging, scanning,

sterilization, storage and distribution of reusable surgical instrumentation

and equipment. Performs other duties as

assigned or required.

PositionResponsibilities:

  1. Decontaminates andsterilizes instruments, medical supplies and equipment, and assembles, wraps,and sterilizes trays of instruments.Follows proper Standard Precautions while in decontamination andsterilization areas.

  2. Monitors biologicaland chemical wash solution to ensure quality and consistency fordecontamination of instruments and medical equipment.

  3. Sorts mismatched setsof instruments, trays, and medical equipment and makes them available tosterile processing customers in a timely manner.

  4. Restocks, labels, andmaintains inventory, submits requisitions, collects and distributesinstruments, trays, crash carts, and facility medical equipment.

  5. Performsenvironmental maintenance duties and assists in maintaining inventory levels insterile processing, the operating room, and in equipment storage areas.

  6. Verifies thatequipment functions properly, requisitions for equipment maintenance, repair orreplacement, and removes defective equipment.

  7. Maintains a cleanwork area

  8. Assists withmaintaining established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, andquality improvement, safety, and environmental and infection control standards.

  9. Communicatesappropriately using good interpersonal skills

Qualifications

Education andLicensure:

High

School Diploma/GED

Completion

of Sterile Processing Program

Certification

through accredited Sterile Processing organization (Certification Board for

Sterile Processing and Distribution

  • CBSPD or International Association of

Healthcare Central Service Materials Management

  • IAHCSMM) within 1 year of

employment

Minimum Experience:

One

(1) year of experience

Minimum Knowledge,Skills, and Abilities:

Basic

knowledge of sterile processing
