Surgical Technician III-Woodlands Perioperative Services (Days) Full Time

TheWoodlands Hospital

A primary and secondary care hospital serving North Harris and

Montgomery counties. Clinical services include cardiovascular services,

diagnostic imaging, women’s services (digital mammography and bone density

studies), neurosciences, pediatric care (Newborn and Level II nurseries) and

surgery, pathology and pulmonary services, and sleep disorders. Clinical

affiliations include The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center’s

Radiation Treatment Center, and Texas Children’s Hospital.

Position Summary:

Possesses superior knowledge of the various surgical equipment and

advanced surgical instrumentation in at least three or more specialties;

Develops, organizes and Delivers continuing education topics as needed by the

unit, serving as a liaison to Instrument Techs assigned to the section, and

assures equipment is cleaned and maintained as required.

Position Responsibilities:

Assists surgical team in

the scrubbing role according to prescribed standards

2.

Maintains sterile field.

Reports immediately any breaks in aseptic technique.

3.

Passes instruments,

suture products, medication, and sponge materials to surgeon.

4.

Assists with retracting

of tissue and organs, and suctioning by holding the retracting instrument which

has been placed by the surgeon.

5.

Electrosurgical current

may be applied as directed by the surgeon, to an established instrument placed

by the surgeon.

6.

Performs surgical counts

with the RN according to policy and procedure.

Assures appropriate

equipment and supplies are available for each procedure:

Assists in housekeeping

duties as directed to insure safe patient environment.

9.

Assists RN with

circulator duties while under direct supervision.

10.

Performs additional

activities and duties as directed.

11.

Demonstrates superior

knowledge and practice in the first scrub role (duties above)

12.

Understands supply costs

and independently works with team to assure that quality of care is maintained

while cost containment is considered

13.

Demonstrates superior

knowledge of the varied surgical equipment and advanced surgical

instrumentation. Assures appropriate equipment and supplies are available

for each procedure

14.

Assists in communication

with Biomedical Services on the status of equipment needing repair or

maintenance

15.

Educates staff in the

care of instrumentation and equipment

Qualifications

Education:

Associate’s

Degree Required

Licensure/Certification:

Certified

Surgical Technician (CST) or Certified Surgical First Assistant (CST/CSFA)

BCLS

Minimum Experience:

Three

(3) years of experience

Minimum Knowledge,Skills, and Abilities:

Able

to work in at least 3 different specialty areas.
