RN-LEAD Surgical Services
Job Summary / Purpose
This position leads frontline nursing staff to deliver excellent, safe and quality patient care. Responsible to oversee the day-to-day operational and surgical services activities.
Key Job Responsibilities
Manages daily safety huddles and minutes.
Fosters a positive Perioperative Customer Satisfaction/Patient Experience environment including, but not limited to patient rounding, addressing patient complaints thru service recovery, IRIS, and Grievance Process. Maintains a safe and effective perioperative/endoscopy environment by investigating all IRIS reports within time frame and follow up.
Monitors patient care for quality thru chart audits, reporting of required safety initiatives to state regulatory agencies, and dissemination of results to staff.
Personnel Management including addressing behavioral issues, staff coaching, including disciplinary actions.
Complies and supports change with all CHI policies.
Responsible for annual review of department policy/procedures/development of new nursing policies/procedures.
Maintains required documentation of patient care by auditing patient and department records.
Completes billing for hospital services rendered; validates charges for MU requirements, and Charge Reconciliation. Audits Operating Room charges.
Demonstrates professionalism when working with physicians and other providers. Acts as resource for OR nursing and techs. Follows the chain of command.
Manages Central Sterile Processing, Same Day Surgery, Post Anesthesia Recovery, Endoscopy/Outpatient Procedural Area.
Facilitates mock drills for staff development.
Maintains acceptable clinical standards (AORN, AAMI, APIC, ACS, etc.)
Collaboration with bio med assuring functional equipment and replacement of end of life devices.
Development and maintenance of Perioperative policies/procedures and assures review/revisions are done with timeliness.
Maintains and retains core perioperative staff (Nursing, Surgical Techs, CSP, SDS, Outpatient, and Endoscopy) by recruitment, selection, interviewing, training, and annual performance reviews.
Maintain a safe and aseptic working environment by quality control measures, data collection and TJC regulations for CSP, PACU, Cleanup Room, Sterile Supply, SDS, Endoscopy, Outpatient, and the OR Suites.
Maintains professional and technical knowledge by completion of LEARN assignments, attending mandatory in-services and participation in professional networks (AORN, MNAST, IAHCSMM, CBSPD, SGNA, etc.).
Acts as liaison/mediator/educator for surgeons and nursing staff and non-surgical staff when needed.
Promotes the Perioperative and Endoscopy Service Lines with particular attention to growth and new opportunities to serve particular patient populations. Validates and approves surgeon and outside surgical invoices.
Leads monthly staff meetings.
We are looking for a responsible and compassionate Registered Nurse with top-notch clinical skills, a caring attitude, and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision. It is also important to display excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills as well as the ability to effectively educate patients and their families on the in-home healthcare process.
Additional requirements for this role include:
Current Registered Nurse (RN) license that allows you to practice in our state
Graduate of an accredited nursing program
Experience as a Registered Nurse preferred
Basic Life Support (BLS) required
Specialty certification (ex: CCRN, CNOR, CEN) preferred
Additional certification or licensure may be required for some specialty areas
