Serves as the lobby receptionist for the Surgery/Special Procedures patients at Harrison Medical Center. Provides a welcoming presence for patients as they enter the facility. Verifies patient identity with a few questions and visual inspection of identification, and invites patient to be seated in the lobby while they wait for the nurse to escort them to their next area. Informs Registration and/or Pre-Op staff of the patient’s arrival. Keeps family informed about the patient’s status.
Ascertains nature of business of visitors and answers routine questions; informs appropriate party of arrival; may respond to complaints or refer to appropriate party.
Monitors restricted areas to ensure appropriate access.
Checks patients in, obtains family contact information and notifies appropriate department of the patient’s arrival.
Requests assistance from surgical volunteers to escort patients and visitors to the appropriate areas.
Maintains knowledge of responses to codes and alarms, including use of the reception panic button.
Documents the daily surgery schedule from the Epic Master Schedule. Monitors daily schedule by calling appropriate departments for status updates in order to provide current information for families, friends and caregivers. Tracks surgery schedule, GI Lab Hand Vasc apt, Imaging Studies.
Issues pagers and tracking cards to surgery families waiting. Completes necessary paperwork, and record keeping documentation.
Creates and updates the daily schedule in accordance with established procedures.
Answers multi-line phones, screens and directs telephone calls; provides information in response to general inquiries from patients, visitors, staff, providers and others.
Maintains knowledge of the hospital and surrounding medical community.
Provides concierge services. Updates directories and community resources such as taxi and local hotel information.
One year of related work experience that demonstrates attainment of the requisite job knowledge skills/abilities.
