Harrison Medical Center's Oncology is located on the Washington Peninsula offering a variety of activities in fishing, kayaking, boating, camping, hiking, and river rafting. And, the big city (Seattle) is only a foot ferry ride away. The unit is a great mix of seasoned nurses and younger nurses. The team work is dynamic and the nurses love to teach and nurture. Great mix of sports lovers, dancers, singers, and most love to cook. The Oncology department has been recognized for creating a ZEN room for staff to take breaks.
Our patient population typically consist of medical patients, hematology patients (GI Bleeds), oncology patients, Patients receiving chemotherapy, patients with pain management issues (sickle cell, hospice patients); and, occasionally surgical patients.
This job is responsible for providing a wide variety of professional nursing services which focus on the provision of quality patient care consistent with Franciscan Health System (FHS) standards/values, applicable regulatory requirements and scope of practice for the nursing profession. Work also includes developing, implementing and assessing the patient plan of care during time of stay in collaboration with physicians, interdisciplinary teams, and the patient/family. An incumbent is engaged in direct patient care, including assessing, planning, coordinating, evaluating and delegating work to members of the patient care team, and for providing education and consultation with patients, families, physicians and other staff members in implementing appropriate nursing interventions for optimal patient care.
Administers chemotherapy and biotherapies.
Applies knowledge of current cancer treatment modalities to patient care.
Performs as a relief Charge Nurse when assigned. Tasks include, but are not limited to: floor report; patient placement based on acuity, staffing and diagnosis; problem solving with manager and/or peers.
Graduation from an accredited school of nursing, BSN degree is preferred.
Minimum 6 months previous RN experience required.
Minimum two years in an oncology acute care setting or related work experience like Med/Surg, Progressive Care or Intensive Care preferred
One year in chemotherapy administration, preferred.
Current licensure as a Registered Nurse issued by the Washington State Board of Nursing.
Current Healthcare BLS Certification.
Specialty certification, as appropriate to the assigned work unit, is strongly preferred.
