TRANSCRIPTIONIST (Pathology) Full Time: 10a-6p (2510001892)


Job Responsibilities

Under direct supervision, Transcriptionist is responsible for interpreting and transcribing dictation by healthcare providers with speed and accuracy in order to document patient care and facilitate delivery of healthcare services..

Additional responsibilities for this health care role include:

Transcribe dictated reports accurately within established standards.

Recognize, interpret and evaluate inconsistencies, discrepancies and inaccuracies in medical text or dictation appropriately to clarify, flag, or report as needed.

Translate medical jargon and abbreviations into their expanded form.

Prioritize dictated reports based on level of continuity of care needs.

Edit as necessary for grammar and clarity.

Produce a variety of documents, including discharge summaries, history and physical examination reports, operative reports, consultation reports, autopsy reports, diagnostic imaging studies, progress notes and referral letters.

Perform other duties as assigned.



  • None required.


  • Knowledge of medical terminology, especially anatomic pathology, required.

  • Knowledge of human anatomy and physiology preferred.

  • Good telephone skills, including taking accurate phone messages, and being able to give verbal results to physician’s offices as requested.

  • Works efficiently with frequent interruptions.

  • Proficient in the use of dictating/transcribing equipment, photocopy machines, fax machines and personal computers.


  • High School Diploma or GED required.
