Patient Account Representative - Mercy Central Pediatric Clinic - FT .9 (Days)



Responsible for

monitoring and maintaining the revenue cycle in an outpatient clinic setting.

Provides coding, charge entry, payment posting, bookkeeping, insurance

expertise, registration and customer service skills to assist the clinic and

the patient through the revenue cycle.


  • Serves as patient advocate in promoting clarity and understanding ofaccount status.

  • Maintains accounts receivable (i.e. accurately codes, posts chargesand/or pay­ments, requests refunds,etc.)

  • Reconciles charges, payments and/or deposits daily and monthly.

  • Maintains strong and open communication with PBO to ensure accurate andtimely maintenance of accounts receivable.

  • Follows clinicprocedure/protocol for the organization and management of the electronicmedical record (i.e. test results, retrieval, filing, creation, repair,charging of electronic medical record).

  • Assists with insurance denials for correction and re-filing. Appropriatelycorresponds with PBO via email.

  • Maintains functional knowledge of insuranceterminology and ensures the accuracy of registration data.

  • Acts as resource for billing system functionality.

  • Follows prescribed system to locate patientswith undeliverable address.

  • Makes recommendations for disposition of accounts (i.e. financialassistance)

  • Keeps abreast of insurance carrier rules and changes by participatingin carrier specific and MCI education opportunities

  • Appropriately uses ICD-9/10 and CPT-4 codes.



  • High School Diploma or equivalency.

  • Specialized or technical training such as would be ac­quired in acollege or technical school (i.e. coding, medical assistant).

  • A minimum of one-year current experience with ICDM 9/10, CPTcoding, and health insurance provider rules and regulations.

  • Knowledge of: Medical office practices and proce­dures, mathematics,office equipment, medical terminology, clinic policies and procedures, dataentry and basic computer experience.

  • Basic Life Support (BLS)for the Healthcare Provider certified or obtained within three (3) monthsof hire.

  • Proof of completion of Mandatory Reporter abusetraining specific to population serve within three (3) months of hire.
