GENERAL SUMMARY :

Provides non-biased, nurturing, support to at-risk children

whose mothers are receiving services from House of Mercy. Implements developmentally appropriate

practices that enhance the children’s physical, social, emotional, and

cognitive functioning consistent with NAEYC and Early Head Start Performance

Standards. Provides practical

instruction on basic parenting and serves as their coach, role model, and

mentor for child related issues.

ESSENTIALFUNCTIONS :

  • Provides adequate supervision to children at alltimes indoors and outdoors.

  • Maintains a safe, orderly, nurturing anddevelopmentally appropriate environment consistent with ITERS, ECERS, SACERS,NAEYC, Early Head Start Performance Standards, and DHS licensing standards.

  • Provides for the basic needs of children throughdaily routines that are respectful of each child’s developmental and culturalneeds. (i.e., feeding, diapering, etc.).

  • Promotes healthy eating and mealtime practicesconsistent with CACFP guidelines and recommendations.

  • Creates and implements weekly developmentallyappropriate lesson/experience plans, activities, and projects to meet theidentified physical, social, emotional, and cognitive needs of each childconsistent with NAEYC and Early Head Start Performance Standards.

  • Assesses and measures the developmental level ofassigned children in the areas of physical, social, emotional, and cognitivefunctioning utilizing on-line and written assessment tools endorsed by thecenter.

  • Documents daily observations of children for usein the assessment and planning process.

  • Consistently and respectfully communicates withparents and House of Mercy staff both formally and informally asneeded/appropriate.

  • Facilitates and provides ongoing mentoring andcoaching for parents to enhance parenting skills and understanding offundamental child development issues, focusing on the special needs of at-riskchildren.

  • Provides ongoing communication with ChildDevelopment Center Manager and the treatment team regarding concerns with childor parent behaviors.

  • Documents all significant issues in an accurate,objective, timely manner consistently following prescribed policies andprocedures for reporting.

  • Promotes communication with parents throughweekly notes, monthly newsletter, and quarterly parent conferences.

  • Respectfully communicates to volunteers andguides their interactions with the children.

  • Attends and participates in all House of Mercymandated staff meetings and training sessions.

  • Participates in House of Mercy’s Performance Quality Improvement Process.

  • Attendsand participates in professional development trainings through United WayWomen’s Leadership, Early Head Start, DHS, HOM and other pre-approved offeringsto total 20 hours annually.

Qualifications

MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE,SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED :

  • Must be 18 years of age orolder.

  • HighSchool Diploma or GED required.

  • A Bachelor’s or Associate’sdegree in Early Childhood/Child Development or related field is preferred. If do not have Early Childhood/ChildDevelopment degree, Child Development Associate (CDA) credential or equivalentis required.

  • Medication ManagerCertification preferred, but not required.

  • Prior work experiencewithin an early childhood center-based program (National Association for the Educationof Young Children [NAEYC] accredited) preferred.

  • Possesses the appropriateknowledge and skills necessary to implement NAEYC guidelines and procedures.

  • Holds knowledge and skillsnecessary to identify and relate to children with special needs, children atrisk and children who exhibit behavioral disorders.

  • Ability to move and reactquickly.

  • Meets all Statequalifications.

  • Displays knowledge andunderstanding of all current State and Local Regulations.

  • Infant, child and adult CPRcertified through American Heart Association or Red Cross (Heart Saver AED)within three (3) months of hire.

  • Infant, child and adult First Aidcertification through American Heart Association or Red Cross within three (3) monthsof hire.

  • Mandatory Child Abuse Reportingtraining to be completed within first 30 days of employment.

  • Completion of EssentialsChild Care Pre-service online series within first 90 days of employment.

  • May be required to obtainChauffeur’s license.
