Principal Engineer


Key Functions

  • This position will act as a liaison between the application and technical teams. working closely with the teams to ensure the efficient flow of information and data.

  • Ensures that plans are followed and issues resolved in a manner that results in a successful implementation.

  • Functions in a consultative role using advanced problem-solving and analytical skills to implement, upgrade and support complex application systems.

  • Focused on strategic design of the platform infrastructure to offer maximum stability and performance.


  • Serves as a primary technical liaison to between application and technical teams for new requirements, implementations and issues related to applications.

  • Subject matter expert and general internal consultant on application technical architecture initiatives.

  • Collaborates with leadership on development of infrastructure standardization.

  • Assist with implementation and maintenance of monitoring and alerting tools

  • Assist with maintaining strategy and roadmaps for designated applications

  • Assist with Major Incident support to reduce downtime and impact

  • Provides escalation assistance and advanced level application technical support to resolve problems

  • Supports standardization of documentation and the integration of industry standards and best practices.

  • Maintains knowledge of new developments and research related to

  • designated applications and healthcare IT trends.

  • Evaluates IT updates and revisions; assists with coordinating testing of updates and revisions

  • Oversees efforts with key vendors to understand future application product

  • plans in conjunction with IT leadership

  • Works closely with managers, project managers and business partner

  • leaders to define and develop or implement appropriate infrastructure

  • Additional tasks/responsibilities as defined.

  • Requires on-call coverage responsibilities.


Job Requirements and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in related field or may substitute an equivalent

  • combination of education and experience.

  • 7 years of total IT/application experience required.

  • Experience working directly with vendors

  • Strong interpersonal skills

  • Excellent communication skills (both written and oral)

  • Experience successfully delivering applications with complex infrastructure

  • Knowledge of the application of computer technology within healthcare.

  • Technical knowledge with Product/Vendor Analysis, software support and

  • training programs.

  • Experience in ITIL environments preferred.

  • Ability to be flexible and work analytically in a problem solving environment

  • Attention to detail

  • Strong organizational & multi-tasking skills

  • Strong analytical skills and thought processes

  • Healthcare experience preferred.

Interactions and Responsibilities

  • Works with IT staff to integrate processes with application systems.

  • Works with enterprise architecture teams to integrate application architecture into enterprise architecture

  • Stays connected with industry best practices and vendor specific application methodologies

  • Contributes to the growth and development of application IT staff through education activities in support of the software application.

  • Works closely with committees as a liaison to aligning needs with application functionality.

  • Works with Application teams on planning for implementation of new infrastructure required for the platform

  • Works with Application Analysts on planning for OS patch management and hardware maintenance

  • Participate in Root Cause Analysis for Major Incidents

  • Coordinate with Business Continuity team on current and future state Disaster Recovery
