System Manager, Financial Planning


This position is primarily responsible for the preparation and analysis of the long range financial plan (LRFP), interim financial performance forecasting and coordinating the timeline associated with the annual planning cycle in terms of resource requirements, processes and tools from the Finance perspective. This includes working with the Strategy group as well as Market Based Organizations (MBOs) through all phases of the annual planning cycle.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develops, analyzes and consolidates the annual and other periodic updates of the long-range financial plan, using the Kaufman Hall LRFP application.

  • Oversees the development of capital business plans for the national office from a financial and risk analysis perspective, and reviews large MBO capital business plans submitted for approval.

  • Develops and analyzes the Cash, Days Cash on Hand and Debt to Capitalization projections for the current year and for the annual budget.

  • Analyzes reasons for material financial performance variances, and assesses reasonable financial performance expectations for both the near and long term for CHI consolidated and specific MBOs.

  • Provides support to MBOs with financial projection and other financial analysis issues; establishes effective and collaborative relationships with MBO and national office finance staff.

  • Analyzes capital capacity considering desired metrics related to financial performance and position; works with the Debt Program to correctly project expected activity.

  • Supervises five Senior Financial Planning Analysts, who work directly with the MBOs and national office functions.

  • Develops tools and processes to streamline the LRFP and forecast process workflow including macro impacts, MBO-specific factors, and overall consolidation.

  • Provides training and support for the tools utilized to create the annual LRFP, forecast updates and capital business plans.

  • Prepares ad-hoc reports and analysis for National VPs – Finance and other groups as necessary. Effectively uses existing information system including Hyperion.


Education / Accreditation / Licensure:

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance-related field required with strong preference for Master’s degree in Business or Health Administration.

  • Certified Public Accountant desired.

Required Experience:

  • Minimum of 5 years healthcare financial planning experience required with at least 3 years management experience.
