Pharmacy Clinical Services Coordinator


Summary of Purpose

The Pharmacy Clinical Services Coordinator is responsible for coordinating clinical pharmacy services ensuring that the pharmacy provides optimal clinical services on a daily basis. The Pharmacy Clinical Services Coordinator facilitates the development, implementation and maintenance of systems that promote desirable patient outcomes through the use of safe cost-effective drug therapies. The Pharmacy Clinical Services Coordinator educates and is a resource to staff, patients, and community members as appropriate. The Pharmacy Clinical Services Coordinator is also responsible for the maintenance of pharmacy quality assurance programs designed to analyze, audit, evaluate and improve the quality of patient care in the area of pharmacy services.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Ensures safe, appropriate, cost effective drug therapies for patients according to established policies, procedures and protocols.

  2. Provides education and information on pharmaceutical care and drug therapy. Responsible for development and implementation of educational programs for pharmacy staff, students and other health care professionals.

  3. Contributes to the quality and effective operation of the department.

  4. Participates with other health care professionals in the assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation of patient care.

  5. Maintains and develops a current knowledge base of new drugs and pharmaceutical care changes.

  6. Coordinates the provision of decentralized clinical pharmacy services through appropriate scheduling. Mentors appropriate interventions and the professional interaction process in collaboration with the Pharmacy Director.

  7. In coordination with Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee, responsible for development and maintenance of hospital formulary.

  8. Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.



  • Graduate of an accredited College of Pharmacy with a PharmD degree.


  • Licensure as a registered pharmacist in the State of Nebraska.


  • Two years experience coordinating a clinical pharmacy program preferred.


  • Basic Life Support Certification is required prior to clinical work on the nursing units.

  • Must have the ability to communicate effectively with all people and project a positive attitude toward work and people.

  • Required to understand proper handling and disposal of chemotherapy drugs, departmental safety policies and universal precautions.

  • Ability to work independently and handle stress appropriately. Ability to work cooperatively with hospital and pharmacy staff. Ability to handle frequent interruptions and adapt to changes in workload and work schedule.

  • Ability to set priorities, make critical decisions and respond quickly to emergency requests. Fosters a team environment by providing orientation and training to new team members.

  • Ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written).
