  1. Collaborates virtually with physicians, nurses and other health care team members in the provision of clinical care for the patient.

  2. Assesses virtually the medical, physical, and psychological status of patients by reviewing patient records, obtaining a comprehensive problem-oriented health history and monitoring and evaluating laboratory, x-ray, EKG, and other diagnostic studies as medically indicated.

  3. Interprets available data in order to establish a primary plan of care. The Plan is developed through an interdisciplinary team approach and through multi-dimensional patient care conference, ongoing patient assessments, and re-evaluation of patient problems or needs.

  4. Prioritizes clinical information accurately and in a timely manner.

  5. Responds to routine, urgent and emergent patient problems appropriately by demonstrating effective decision-making and provides follow-up to ensure that patient problems are resolved.

  6. Works to prevent patient problems from occurring by: direct observation via telemedicine technology, proactive surveillance of adverse physiological trends, and assurance of appropriate prophylactic strategies, medical chart review, and appropriate reaction to patient alerts. Risk reduction will be done through participation in root cause analysis (RCA’s), quality surveillance, as well as, compiling and interpreting large data sets of patient information.

  7. Effectively communicates with members of the bedside interdisciplinary team in a collegial manner to provide safe and error-free care during routine and emergent conditions. Provides courteous and enthusiastic phone communication to employees at hospital sites.

  8. Serves as an advocate on behalf of patients and their families in regards to their cultural, spiritual and care needs.




  1. Bachelor of Science in Nursing Degree required upon hire.

  2. Master’s Degree in Nursing as Clinical Nurse Leader (CNL) preferred.

  3. Master’s Degree in Nursing as Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) accepted.

  4. Master’s Degree in Nursing as CNL required within no longer than 4 years, unless already has CNS degree. Must begin program during next available semester.


Completion of a Registered Nurse program in an accredited institution required.

Current RN licensure in the State of Nebraska or the State of Iowa. Nebraska and Iowa are compact states so you must be licensed in the state of residence.

BLS or BLS instructor certification is required upon hire. Acceptable credentialing bodies and certifications include the following: American Red Cross: CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer and American Heart Association: Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers.

ACLS or ACLS instructor certification is required within 6 months of hire. Acceptable credentialing bodies and certifications include the following: American Heart Association: Advanced Cardiac Life Support, American Safety and Health Institute: ACLS, American College of Surgeons: ATLS (Advanced Trauma Life Support) and American College of Emergency Physician: ACLS


  1. Minimum of five (5) years in clinical focus area preferred.

  2. Must apply and be accepted into an accredited CNL Program.
