Under close supervision and according to established procedures, performs routine basic nursing procedures necessary to provide for care, comfort and safety of patients. Takes vital signs, assists patients with personal hygiene, feeds and ambulates patients, transfers patients and so forth according to detailed procedures.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Provides for care, comfort and safety of assigned patients under close direction of registered nurse. In doing so, positions patients, assists with cleansing of patient, oral hygiene, ambulation, and making of beds

2.Performs and records basic nursing care procedures such as collection of routine specimens, vital signs, intake and output, foley care, and weights in accordance to detailed procedures.

3.Completes EKGs on any patient that MD orders, communicates the EKG print out to the MD, transmits the EKG to the McKesson portal, and then assigns EKG to be read by appropriate MD.

4 Cleanses all wounds and applies dressing appropriately as directed by provider and nursing personnel.

  1. Applies ace wraps, splints, slings, and immobilizers to patient’s affected extremity.

  2. Observes patients and reports reactions or changes in condition to appropriate nursing personnel.

Qualifications

Education

Ability to read in order to interpret type and level of patient care ordered, to write in order to record procedures performed, to understand and follow instructions relating to basic patient care, and to perform simple arithmetic calculations in order to take and record patients' weight and vital signs. This education is normally acquired by completion of at least two years of high school.

License/Certification

State of Nebraska Certified Nursing Assistant certification required. Additional unit-specific knowledge is obtained through orientation, checklists and competency testing.
