JOB SUMMARY: Inspect, prepare and assemble endoscopy scopes, instruments and related equipment, sterile for dispensing.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

COMMUNICATION/INFORMATION MANAGEMENT

Demonstrates and facilitates effective departmental and inter-departmental communications.

Consistently responds to departmental and inter-departmental needs in a prompt, accurate, clear, and precise manner (i.e., filling and dispensing requested supplies, instruments, equipment, etc.)

Consistently informs appropriate individuals about problems involving equipment, supplies, instruments, etc.

Consistently maintains continuity of communications

Performs quality controls on the Megavators daily.

COMPETENCY TO PROCESS AND CLEAN SCOPE

Consistently inspects the integrity of scopes, prewashes, flush and clean scopes.

Responsible for changing Cidex as scheduled

Change filters as scheduled

Proficient in drying and hanging scopes after cleaning in a manner to maintain the integrity of the scopes.

Performs CIDEX checks on Medivators and Cidex soak containers daily.

Daily removes items in CIDEX soak, rinses them and stores them appropriately.

COMPETENCY TO PROCESS SCOPES, SUPPLIES and EQUIPMENT.

Uses care in handling instruments, identifies heat sensitive items, separates delicate items to prevent damage.

Checks the condition of scopes prior to use.

Ensures that appropriate sterilization indicators and filters are placed in the instrument pan(s) prior to sterilization.

Consistently follows specified checklist when cleaning and processing scopes.

Knowledgeable of the basic use of various scopes.

Removes used scopes from room promptly for sterilization.

Keeps accurate records of Cidex efficiency logs. Fills logs daily.

Follows cleaning procedure per manufacturer’s instructions.

Maintains established inventory supplies.

Displays knowledge in identifying all types of scopes.

Able to assist in the training of new employees.

COMPETENCY TO MAINTAIN AN ENVIRONMENT THAT SUPPORTS ASEPSIS AND SAFETY

Understands and practices basis aseptic principles.

Understands the importance of precisely following guidelines for sterilization and loading washer as outlined by policy and procedure.

Demonstrates understanding of basic principles of sterilization methods used at SVIMC for cleaning GI scopes and operates/maintains sterilizers according to the manufacturer’s recommendations.

Is prompt and loads sterilizers in the correct manner.

Maintains daily documentation/log with scope number, machine number and patient number used on each patient for Quality Monitoring.

Culture scopes as needed.

Notify Biomed of repair needs for scopes and medivators.

Checks and maintain Cidex efficiency logs between each case on a daily basis.

Performs on a daily basis appropriate testing for sterilizers according to manufacturer’s.

Prepares cleaning solution accurately and maintains adequate level of cleaner in washer.

Practices good personal hygiene.

Understands and complies with infection control policies and procedures such as hand washing, containment of infections agents/materials.

Attends in-service programs and complies with general safety guidelines, fire safety rules, hazard communications, emergency codes and procedures.

Uses care in operating all equipment and carts; sinks are cleaned.

Sterilizer drains are free of debris and cleaned daily.

Removes and dispose of dirty linen in the appropriate area at the end of each shift.

Monitors status of supplies in the department, notify appropriate staff when par levels are low so that orders can be placed.

Sorts and stores equipment that need to be reconditioned for future use.

Any other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: High School diploma, GED or Metropolitan Test or equivalent.

Experience: Working knowledge of endoscopy supplies, instruments and equipment.

Physical Requirements: This job requires, at various times, the following physical activities; climbing, stooping, crouching, reaching, standing, carrying, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, finger dexterity, talking, and hearing, sometimes exerting in excess of 10-50 pounds of force.

The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform daily activities.

The worker is subject to inside environmental conditions, hazards (including electrical currents and exposure to chemicals), and infectious diseases.

Skills: Able to read and comprehend written material of moderate complexity, write with acceptable clarity and make arithmetic computations; demonstrate positive guest relations/communication skills.
