PATIENT ACCOUNT REP - GI JOINT VENTURE - FULL TIME

JOB SUMMARY: The Patient Account Representative prepares and processes superbill charges and payments and post to patient accounts; schedules daily appointments; performs other duties as assigned.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. COMMUNICATION

  2. Answers phones promptly and courteously

  3. Responds to mail regarding account inquires

  4. Answers patient questions

  5. Works one on one with billing agency to actively collect past due balances

  6. File all correspondence in patient record

  7. Researches patient problems and complaints for causes and solutions

  8. INFORMATION MANAGEMENT

  9. Verifies all ICD-9, CPT codes and modifiers when posting to patient account

  10. Maintains records and files current for easy retrieval

  11. Enters patient information for appointments

  12. Reviews daily transaction journals to ensure all transaction batches are balanced

  13. Handles patient accounts confidentially

  14. CLERICAL

  15. Post all charges and payments to each designated patient account

  16. Uses appropriate adjustment and payment codes when posting to patient accounts

  17. Refers necessary accounts to billing agency to process for collections

  18. Ensure patient information is accurate in patient and computer records

  19. Maintain chart order established by clinic, when filing correspondence in patient record

  20. Performs other duties as assigned

  23. Handles collections of patient money in accurate honest mannerism

  24. Handles patient accounts in confidential mannerism

  25. Effective in personal time management

GUEST RELATIONS

  1. Maintains good working relationships with patients, clinic staff, billing agency and insurance companies

  2. Comply with regulatory standards for the industry and the clinic

  3. Schedule patient appointments

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: High School Diploma, GED, Metropolitan Test or Equivalent

Experience: Experience in health care or related setting; ability to work without close supervision

Physical Requirements: Able to lift and carry up to twenty five (25) pounds. Must be able to sit for prolonged periods of time. Must be mentally alert and able to work under pressure.

Skills: Demonstrates communication skills, both oral and written. Accurate typing; ability to perform multiple tasks; utilizes good organizational skills; good decision making skills.

PRIMARY CUSTOMERS: Patients, families, physicians, employees, vendors, insurance companies and representatives.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS : Team Leader, Clinic Manager/Director, Physicians
