Emergency Room Technician


Full Time - Nights

Job Summary:

This job is responsible for assisting in the delivery of patient care and performance of established tasks and procedures under the supervision of a physically present and immediately available Registered Nurse/MD.

Essential Duties:

  • Assists in implementing plan of care by performing common nursing procedures and tasks.

  • Assists in making observations, gathering data and identifying patient care needs.

  • Responds appropriately to emergency situations.

  • Demonstrates competency in the delivery of care and clinical technique to address the age specific needs of the patient (to include but not limited to):

  • Basic airway management

  • CPR

  • Vital signs including blood pressure, pulse, oral and rectal temperature and Respirations.

  • Electrocardiogram

  • Bedside urine dip

  • Wound care including suture set-up

  • Assisting with eye irrigation using Morgan Lens

  • Assisting with ear irrigation

  • Orthopedic splinting

  • Visual acuity

  • Suture/staple removal

  • Assisting with gastric lavage

  • ADL including dressing and undressing patient and assisting with urinals and bedpans

  • Pulse oximetry

  • Peak flow

  • Breath alcohol

  • Phlebotomy ( Assists with removal of peripheral IV and urinary catheters

  • Blood glucose checks

  • Decontamination /Washdown with Level C Bio-Haz Suit and powered respirator.

  • Assists with patient transport and transfer.

  • Assists with cleaning and maintenance of Emergency center equipment and supplies.

  • Adheres to safety and risk management standards.

  • Assists with clerical and communication tasks to support patient care.



  • High school diploma (or equivalent) required.

  • Completion of an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) program, a Medical Assistant or Certified Nursing Assistant program or completion of one year of nursing school preferred.


  • Six months recent experience in pre-hospital (EMS) or an emergency department

  • Or completion of one year of nursing school within the last two years is preferred.


  • Current Certified Nursing Assistant (C.N.A.) OR EMT CERTIFICAITON

  • Current Registered Nursing Assistant (RNA)

  • Must maintain Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
