Surgical Technician (Orthopedics) Sugar Land Full Time

Position Summary

The Surgical Technologist provides clinical

support and/or operating room assistance under the supervision of a licensed

physician or surgeon. The Surgical Technologist works with a wide variety of

healthcare professionals to deliver direct patient care before, during, and

after procedures or surgery.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform patient

triage duties, e.g. vital signs, weights, documentation of allergies, chief

complaints, collection of health assessment information, obtain patient

history, answer patient questions, explain the procedure, maintain

documentation standards, and consult findings directly with the physician or

surgeon, etc.

  • Assist the

physician or surgeon with patient examination, treatment and minor surgery,

e.g. simple dressing changes, hot/cold applications, clinical procedures:

sterile and non-sterile, etc.

  • Perform all

laboratory duties, e.g. urinalysis, specimen collections, cultures, etc.

  • Perform radiographic

and ultrasound examinations, e.g. cystograms, transrectal and bladder

ultrasounds.

  • Adhere to strict

aseptic techniques.

  • Obtain, inspect,

and prepare the proper surgical instrumentation, supplies, equipment and

sutures needed prior to each procedure.

  • Assist in being

accountable for all sponges, needles and instruments used during a surgical

procedure.

  • Assure that all

equipment and supplies are available for the surgical procedure.

  • Assist with

moving, positioning, and transporting patients.

  • Assist with minor

surgical procedures.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

Education/Accreditation/Licensure (required & preferred):

  • High school diploma or equivalentrequired.

  • Graduationfrom an accredited surgical technologist training program or equivalentrequired.

  • Certificationthrough the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting(formerly the Liaison Council of Certification) as a Surgical Technologistwithin one year of hire required.

  • BasicLife Support (BLS) or Advanced Care Life Support (ACLS) required.

    Minimum Experience:

  • 2 years of healthcare experiencerequired.

  • 1 year of surgical procedureexperience required.
