TheWoodlands Hospital

A primary and secondary care hospital serving North Harris and

Montgomery counties. Clinical services include cardiovascular services,

diagnostic imaging, women’s services (digital mammography and bone density

studies), neurosciences, pediatric care (Newborn and Level II nurseries) and

surgery, pathology and pulmonary services, and sleep disorders. Clinical

affiliations include The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center’s

Radiation Treatment Center, and Texas Children’s Hospital.

Position Summary:

Prepares STAT microscopic slides necessary for the interpretation

by the Pathologists in the diagnosis of disease; follows the laboratory’s

procedures for specimen handling and processing, test analyses, reporting and

maintaining records of patient test results.

Position Responsibilities:

1.

Receives accessions and Assists with grossing of tissue specimens

from surgery.

2.

Prepares STAT Frozen Sections for the Pathologists for immediate

interpretation.

3.

Receives, accessions, and prepare cytology specimens for

Pathologists review according to hospital policy.

4.

Follow the laboratory's procedures for specimen handling and

processing, test preparation, reporting and maintaining records of patient test

results.

5.

Adhere to the laboratory's quality control policies, document all

quality control activities and maintenance performed.

6.

Follow the laboratory's established policies and procedures

whenever test systems are not within the laboratory's established acceptable

levels of performance.

7.

Identifying problems that may adversely affect test performance or

reporting of test results; must correct problems or immediately notify the

laboratory manager or supervisor.

8.

Document all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate

from the laboratory's established performance specifications.

9.

Participate in bone marrow specimen collection and preparation.

Qualifications

Education:

Associate’s

Degree Required

Minimum Knowledge,Skills, and Abilities:

One (1) year of related work

experience in cytology or histology departments
